Dead Poets-On The Grind from Javier Goin on Vimeo.
This is my latest production. I shot this in October around Fordham Rd, The Bronx. At the beginning of the day, I had alot of over cast. The weather did not look right but for some reason, I was willing to wait it out. We've had bad luck on other several shooting dates due to the weather. I didn't want to postpone it again. On this production, I had David Salebe fo assistance. We waited in the car talking about the production and at the same time marking my spots for first takes.
Finally, the weather started to cooperate. Sunshine was our best friend because we were using a reflector board as appose to the one that I usually used. I love the fact that it was lighting it really good, as long as we were using it right. The sun played a big part in creating the look of it, in which i was really thrilled.
I always wanted to do a cypher shot and i think i manage to create one on all angles.
I then started to get the solo shots for each artist. I wanted to do different scenes for each artist. Keep in mind I had one location which was the park. I always have the first takes as ice breakers for me and the artist. As I view and analyze each shots, I start to get excited and then get into it. I start to see the final product as i keep shooting. I already start editing it in my head. It saves a lot of time and keep everything under budget. The second day was to get b-roll shots, all shot on slow mo and then I would sprinkle it all over the video in post.
